Hoehn-Saric Invited to Address AHFA Board

Chair of the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Alexander Hoehn-Saric, has been invited to address AHFA’s Board of Directors at its May 2024 government affairs meeting in Washington, D.C. The event features a noon to 5 p.m. board meeting on May 14 and a morning on Capitol Hill May 15, during which a series of lawmakers and administrative officials will address industry executives.

Hoehn-Saric most recently spoke at the International Consumer Product Health and Safety Organization Annual Meeting. He noted that the CPSC announced 308 recalls of 97 million consumer product units last year (including one bunk bed and one bookcase); levied more than $52 million in civil penalties; and screened over 48,000 harmful products at U.S. ports.

He also highlighted the agency’s priorities for 2024, which include an increased focus on identifying hazardous and recalled products in online marketplaces. The CPSC’s 2023 Annual Performance Report noted that the agency made more than 57,400 requests to platforms and sellers last year asking for banned or recalled products to be removed from ecommerce sites.
