E-filing is a CPSC initiative under which importers of regulated consumer products will electronically file (e-file) data elements from a certificate of compliance with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (this includes Certificates of Compliance for children’s furniture and General Certificates of Compliance for other furniture articles). The requirement will impact all companies importing products covered by the STURDY Act, as well as all products covered by the CPSIA’s limits on lead in paint and surface coatings. Bureau Veritas, which participated in the CPSC’s Beta Pilot of the e-filing system, offers an insider’s perspective on the goals, challenges and learnings thus far.
