The home furnishings industry is banking on mood-lifting and wellness-focused designs to persuade Americans to spend on their homes in 2026.
“Over 70,000 industry professionals are in High Point, North Carolina, this week searching for products to help combat inflation fatigue,” notes Patricia Bowling, vice president of communications for the American Home Furnishings Alliance (AHFA). “Producers believe the antidote lies in fresh and purposeful home furnishings that prioritize customized style, comfort and well-being.”
AHFA has more than 250 member companies representing all styles and price points of residential furniture. An overview of their new products debuting at this week’s High Point Market reveals several trends consumers can expect to see in stores and online this fall:
- The democratization of customization. Once available only in luxury brands and with the help of an interior designer, furniture customized to meet your needs is more accessible than ever and a key feature in many new collections.
- Nurturing comfort. How well you sleep, how wholly you relax, how easily you accomplish daily tasks — all these can be promoted or hindered by how a room is furnished. Many designs for 2026 focus on augmenting these important aspects of wellness at home.
- A warming color spectrum. Wood tones have moved decidedly to the warmer end of the spectrum, with natural oak finishes figuring prominently in bedroom and dining room groups this spring. Textiles lean heavily into earthy neutrals and rich spice tones that feel grounded and nurturing. However, in an equally strong countertrend, especially within luxury brands, a watercolor palette of soft pastels prevails.
This summary of new products features introductions from AHFA’s member companies. Company locations listed are High Point Market showrooms, not company headquarters. Company contacts listed are for media inquiries. Corporate web addresses are provided for consumers.

Norwalk Furniture
IHFC M-108
Media Contact: Cathy Linard
clinard@norwalkfurniture.com
In the Norwalk showroom, upholstery trends are moving away from stark minimalism toward layered maximalism and “soulful luxury.” Velvet is the standout fabric for 2026, particularly in heavy weights and matte finishes for sofas. Mohair and wool are also rising as primary choices for high end upholstery. Texture-driven patterns in which visual interest comes from the tactile feel of the fabric — as in ribbing or embossing — are trending. A second trend is “grandmillenial design,” which favors traditional prints like floral chintz, toile, gingham and block prints, often mixed together rather than matched. A particular emphasis is on “pattern drenching,” where the same or complementary patterns are used across upholstery, draperies and small accents like lampshades and table linens. Beyond the prints, the trend is defined by decorative embellishments such as ruffles, pleats, bullion fringe and contrasting tape trims. Norwalk describes its third trend as “Pattern-Play.” It is characterized by oversized botanicals, plaid and tapestry-inspired weaves and soft geometrics that include retro curves and “imperfect” organic shapes. www.norwalkfurniture.com
